- Shortest flight to China: Vancouver–Shanghai, 12 h 15 min. Longest: Washington Dulles–Beijing, 16 h 55 min.
- New in 2026: Los Angeles–Hong Kong (Delta Air Lines), Seattle–Hong Kong (Cathay Pacific), Toronto–Shanghai (Air Canada).
Which airports have nonstop flights to China?
15 airports, sorted by weekly flights. Only 7 US airports fly to mainland China (Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, New York, Dallas/Fort Worth, Detroit, Washington Dulles); the others connect to Hong Kong or Taipei. Mexico City is listed as the one exception: none of its flights to China is nonstop both ways, so its flights via Tijuana are shown but not counted.

Why so few flights: the cap and Russian airspace
The US–China cap. Flights between the US and mainland China are limited by the two governments. Since 31 March 2024, airlines from each side may operate 50 scheduled round trips a week (US DOT Order 2024-2-21). Chinese airlines fly 50: 44 in the tables on this page plus 6 on the Boston and Chengdu services listed under "Not in the tables". US airlines fly 48 – United has asked the DOT to let it keep the rest of its rights unused. We found no confirmed increase for 2026. In September 2026, US airlines objected when Air China asked to add extra New York and Washington flights.
Russian airspace. Since 2022, Russia has been closed to American and Canadian airlines, but not to Chinese ones. The direct great-circle path from the US East Coast or Toronto to Beijing crosses Russia, so the detour matters most there. Most Chinese flights to the US avoid Russia anyway – in October 2025, flight-tracking data showed only four of their US routes crossing it. That month the DOT proposed making the detour mandatory, and as of October 2026 we have not found a final order. The difference shows on one city pair: Air China's Los Angeles–Beijing flights are scheduled at 12 h 40 min–15 h 05 min – the short one, CA988, is one of the four routes reported crossing Russia. United's flight takes 14 h 45 min.
Canada has its own agreement with China; in April 2026 the two governments announced that more flights would be allowed. Flights from Mexico and flights to Hong Kong and Taipei are not covered by either cap.

Own compilation of scheduled nonstop passenger flights between the United States, Canada, Mexico and China, Hong Kong and Taiwan – not an official register. Frequencies are the timetable in force in mid-October 2026; flight times are scheduled block times (gate to gate) from the airlines' filed schedules. Airlines adjust schedules several times a year, and the winter schedule starts on 25 October 2026 – always check current times directly with the airline before booking. Codeshare flight numbers are not listed; only the operating airline's own flight numbers are shown. Not in the tables: nonstop in one direction only
The tables only list flights that are nonstop both ways – except for Mexico City (see above). Two more services are nonstop in one direction:
- Boston – Beijing, Hainan Airlines: Beijing to Boston nonstop (HU729, Wed/Fri/Sun); the return flight from Boston (HU730) stops in Brussels.
- Los Angeles – Chengdu, Sichuan Airlines: Chengdu to Los Angeles nonstop (3U3837, 3× a week); the flight from Los Angeles (3U3838) stops in Hangzhou, even where schedules list it as nonstop.

FAQ
How many direct flights are there between the US, Canada, Mexico and China?
49 nonstop city pairs from 15 airports in the United States, Canada and Mexico to 11 airports in mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan – 75 airline services with about 481 flights a week in each direction (mid-October 2026 timetable). 141 of them go to mainland China, 163 to Hong Kong and 177 to Taipei.
Which US airports have nonstop flights to mainland China?
Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, New York, Dallas/Fort Worth, Detroit, Washington Dulles. Ontario, California, Phoenix, Chicago, Houston, Boston have nonstop flights to Hong Kong or Taipei only. From other US cities you connect – via one of these gateways or via Seoul or Tokyo.
Why are there so few flights between the US and China?
The two governments cap scheduled passenger flights: since 31 March 2024, airlines from each side may fly 50 round trips a week between the US and mainland China. Chinese airlines fly 50 (44 in the tables plus 6 on routes where one direction stops); US airlines fly 48. Hong Kong and Taiwan are outside this cap, which is why there are far more flights there.
How long is a direct flight from the US, Canada or Mexico to China?
Between 12 h 15 min and 16 h 55 min towards China, depending on the city pair. Fastest scheduled nonstop flights from the main gateways: San Francisco–Shanghai 13 h 25 min, Los Angeles–Shanghai 13 h 45 min, Seattle–Shanghai 13 h 10 min, New York–Beijing 16 h 45 min, Vancouver–Shanghai 12 h 15 min, Toronto–Beijing 13 h 20 min, Tijuana–Beijing 13 h 00 min. The return flight is usually one to two and a half hours shorter.
What is the shortest and the longest nonstop flight between North America and China?
Towards China, the shortest is Vancouver–Shanghai (Air Canada, 12 h 15 min); the longest is Washington Dulles–Beijing (Air China, 16 h 55 min). Flights back to North America are usually one to two and a half hours shorter because they ride the jet stream – the shortest is Beijing–Seattle at 10 h 40 min.
Why is one Air China flight from Los Angeles to Beijing two hours shorter than the other?
Route, not aircraft. American and Canadian airlines have been barred from Russian airspace since 2022; most Chinese flights to the US avoid it as well, but a few still cross it. On Los Angeles–Beijing, Air China's flights are scheduled at 12 h 40 min–15 h 05 min depending on the flight number, United's at 14 h 45 min. In October 2025 the US Department of Transportation proposed banning Chinese airlines from Russian airspace on all US flights; as of October 2026 we have not found a final order.
Are there direct flights from Canada to China?
Yes, from Vancouver and Toronto only – 109 flights a week by 11 airlines (Air Canada, Air China, China Eastern, China Southern, Hainan Airlines, Sichuan Airlines, Xiamen Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Hong Kong Airlines, EVA Air, China Airlines). There is currently no nonstop flight from Montreal, Calgary or Ottawa. In April 2026 Canada and China agreed to allow more flights, so new routes may follow.
Are there direct flights from Mexico to China?
Yes, from Tijuana: Tijuana–Beijing (Hainan Airlines, 7× a week, 13 h). Mexico City has no flight to China that is nonstop both ways, but as the capital it is in the tables as an exception: Mexico City–Beijing (Hainan Airlines, 7× a week) and Mexico City–Shenzhen (China Southern, 3× a week). Hainan's flights stop in Tijuana in both directions; China Southern's stop there only on the way from Mexico City – Shenzhen–Mexico City is nonstop. They are not counted in the nonstop totals on this page. There are no passenger flights to China from Cancún, Guadalajara or Monterrey.
Is flying via Hong Kong or Taipei a good alternative?
Often, yes. Hong Kong has 163 nonstop flights a week from 9 North American airports, Taipei 177 from 11. From Hong Kong, high-speed trains run to Shenzhen and Guangzhou in under an hour; from both cities there are frequent flights to the rest of mainland China. Check the visa rules for your route first – Hong Kong and mainland China have separate entry rules.
Which aircraft type flies my flight number?
Use the flight number lookup further down: every operating flight number on these routes (both directions) has its own row with the scheduled aircraft type and flight time. Codeshare numbers (for example an American Airlines number on a Cathay Pacific flight) are not listed – look up the operating airline’s number instead.
