Direct flights from Australia and New Zealand to China

301 nonstop flights a week connect 8 airports in Australia and New Zealand with China – 169 to 13 cities on the mainland, 111 to Hong Kong and 21 to Taipei. This page lists every one of them, with flight numbers, aircraft type, flight time in both directions, operating days and season, plus the extra flights from December to February. Click an airport on the map for its routes, or jump straight to a flight number. Australians and New Zealanders can enter mainland China visa-free for 30 days.

Schedules change often. This is our own compilation from the airlines' filed schedules, not an official timetable – always confirm times with the airline before booking. The winter schedule starts on 25 October 2026 and several airlines change their frequencies then – the "Season & notes" column says how. Seasonal routes are in the tables but not in the weekly totals. Disclaimer →

At a glance

Which airports have nonstop flights to China?

8 airports, sorted by weekly flights in mid-October. Christchurch only has seasonal flights.

December to February: the busy season

Flights between Australia, New Zealand and China follow two holiday calendars at once: the Australian and New Zealand summer holidays, and Chinese New Year, which falls on 6 February 2027. From about December to February Chinese airlines add flights and run seasonal routes. In the southern winter (May to September) they cut back – China Southern, for example, flew Sydney–Guangzhou 14 instead of 21 times a week from July 2026.

Extra flights already filed for 2026/27:

  • Sydney–Beijing (Air China): More flights from 1 December 2026 to late February 2027 – up to twice daily from mid-January, partly with a Boeing 777-300ER.
  • Sydney–Shanghai (China Eastern): Three a day from 11 December 2026 to 15 February 2027.
  • Sydney–Chengdu (Sichuan Airlines): Daily from 4 December 2026 to 27 February 2027.
  • Melbourne–Beijing (Air China): Five a week from 5 December 2026, daily from 5 January to 1 March 2027.
  • Brisbane–Shanghai (China Eastern): Ten a week from 11 December 2026 to 14 February 2027.
  • Brisbane–Guangzhou (China Southern): Twice daily in the winter schedule from 25 October 2026 (CZ635/636 added), 17 a week from 13 December 2026 to 10 January 2027.
  • Perth–Guangzhou (China Southern): Daily from 1 December 2026 to 10 March 2027.
  • Adelaide–Guangzhou (China Southern): Daily from 1 December 2026 to 10 March 2027 – the only year-round nonstop flight from Adelaide to China.
  • Auckland–Beijing (Air China): Daily from 1 December 2026, twice daily from 15 January to 20 February 2027.
  • Auckland–Guangzhou (China Southern): Twice daily in the winter schedule from 25 October 2026 (CZ335/336 added), 18 a week from 2 December 2026 to 12 February 2027.

Seasonal and new routes:

  • Sydney–Shenzhen (Shenzhen Airlines, starts 14 Dec 2026): New route: Shenzhen Airlines' second in Australia, four flights a week.
  • Adelaide–Hong Kong (Cathay Pacific, seasonal, 10 Nov 2026 – 27 Mar 2027): Three a week in November and March, five a week from 4 December 2026 to 26 February 2027.
  • Christchurch–Guangzhou (China Southern, seasonal, from 26 Oct 2026): Daily from 26 October 2026, ten a week from 2 December 2026 to 19 February 2027 (CZ8373/8374 added).
  • Christchurch–Hong Kong (Cathay Pacific, seasonal, 1 Nov 2026 – 27 Mar 2027): Three a week in November and March, five a week from December to February.
  • Adelaide–Shanghai (China Eastern, seasonal, 17 December 2026 – 15 February 2027): three flights a week with an Airbus A350-900; flight numbers not published yet, so not in the tables.

Own compilation of scheduled nonstop passenger flights between Australia, New Zealand and China, Hong Kong and Taiwan – not an official register. Frequencies are the timetable in force in mid-October 2026; seasonal routes (Christchurch, Adelaide–Hong Kong) and announced new routes are listed with their own dates and are not counted in the weekly totals. Flight times are scheduled block times (gate to gate) from the airlines' filed schedules. Airlines adjust schedules several times a year, and the winter schedule starts on 25 October 2026 – always check current times directly with the airline before booking. Codeshare flight numbers are not listed; only the operating airline's own flight numbers are shown.

Not in the tables

  • Hangzhou – Sydney and Hangzhou – Auckland, China Eastern: suspended from May until at least 24 October 2026. No flights are filed for the winter schedule yet.
  • Cairns – Hong Kong, Cathay Pacific: ran three times a week from December 2025 to February 2026; nothing is scheduled for 2026/27 so far.
  • Auckland – Taipei, China Airlines: stops in Brisbane in both directions, so it is not a nonstop flight to China. Air New Zealand flies Auckland–Taipei nonstop.
  • Adelaide – Shanghai, China Eastern: seasonal from 17 December 2026 (see above).

FAQ

How many direct flights are there between Australia, New Zealand and China?

45 nonstop city pairs from 8 airports in Australia and New Zealand to 15 airports in mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan – about 301 flights a week in each direction in mid-October 2026 (250 from Australia, 51 from New Zealand). 169 of them go to mainland China, 111 to Hong Kong and 21 to Taipei. Seasonal routes and the extra flights airlines add from December to February come on top.

Which Australian airports have direct flights to China?

Sydney (14 destinations), Melbourne (12 destinations), Brisbane (4 destinations), Perth (2 destinations), Adelaide (2 destinations), Darwin (1 destination). Sydney and Melbourne have by far the most choice. There are no nonstop flights to China from Canberra, the Gold Coast, Hobart or Cairns at the moment – Cathay Pacific's seasonal Cairns–Hong Kong flights of 2025/26 have not been scheduled again.

Are there direct flights from New Zealand to China?

Yes. Auckland has 51 nonstop flights a week to 8 cities, by 7 airlines (Air China, China Eastern, Air New Zealand, Sichuan Airlines, China Southern, Hainan Airlines, Cathay Pacific). Christchurch has seasonal flights to Guangzhou (China Southern, from 26 October 2026) and Hong Kong (Cathay Pacific, from 1 November 2026). Wellington and Queenstown have none.

How long is a direct flight from Australia or New Zealand to China?

Between 6 h 25 min and 13 h 10 min towards China, depending on the city pair. Fastest scheduled nonstop flights on the main routes: Perth–Guangzhou 7 h 50 min, Sydney–Hong Kong 9 h 25 min, Sydney–Guangzhou 9 h 40 min, Sydney–Shanghai 10 h 10 min, Melbourne–Shanghai 10 h 20 min, Sydney–Beijing 11 h 45 min, Auckland–Shanghai 12 h 10 min. There is no jet-stream effect as on flights across the Pacific: the return flight is usually within an hour of the outbound time.

What is the shortest and the longest nonstop flight to China?

The shortest is Darwin–Guangzhou (China Southern, 6 h 25 min); the longest is Auckland–Beijing (Air China, 13 h 10 min). On the way back the shortest is Guangzhou–Darwin at 6 h 35 min.

Do Qantas or Air New Zealand fly to mainland China?

Air New Zealand does: Auckland–Shanghai, plus Auckland–Hong Kong and Auckland–Taipei. Qantas flies only to Hong Kong (from Sydney and Melbourne); it suspended Sydney–Shanghai in July 2024 because of low demand. Most nonstop flights to mainland China are operated by Chinese airlines.

Are there more flights in the Australian summer?

Yes. Chinese airlines add flights from about December to February, around the Australian summer holidays and Chinese New Year (6 February 2027). Already filed: 10 services with extra flights, plus seasonal routes from Christchurch and Adelaide and a new Shenzhen Airlines route from Sydney (from 14 December 2026). The list is further down the page.

Do Australians and New Zealanders need a visa for China?

Not for short trips: both countries are on China's visa-free list – 30 days for Australians, 30 days for New Zealanders, for tourism, business, visiting family or transit. Hong Kong and Taiwan have their own entry rules.

Which aircraft type flies my flight number?

Use the flight number lookup further down: every operating flight number on these routes (both directions) has its own row with the scheduled aircraft type and flight time. Codeshare numbers (for example a Qantas number on a China Eastern flight) are not listed – look up the operating airline’s number instead.
