Macau light rail map and fare finder

Tap the station you start from, then the one you are going to: the map shows the way, where to change and what it costs. “Taipa & Cotai” zooms in on the part with most of the stations.

Fares: by the number of stations

You pay for how many stations you travel, not for zones or lines, and changing line is free. Two rules change the count: the two crossings over the water, Barra–Ocean and Lotus–Hengqin, each count as two stations; and Union Hospital only counts if your trip starts or ends there or at Seac Pai Van. The finder above applies both. Barra to the Taipa Ferry Terminal, the whole Taipa Line, counts as 12 stations: MOP 12.

Concession tokens: children under 12, people aged 65 or over and people with disabilities who have no concession card; carry proof of age. Children under 1 m travel free with an adult. Macau residents aged 65 or over ride free with a senior card. Stay no longer than 60 minutes inside the gates, or you pay extra.

How to pay

For a visit of a few days, a token from the machine is simplest — if you have Macau patacas. If you only have Hong Kong dollars or RMB, or want to pay by phone, buy at the counter. A card only pays off if you ride a lot: it costs MOP 30, which you do not get back.

The operator lists no way to pay at the gate with a bank card or a phone. We have not tested buying or riding with a foreign card.

From Hengqin and Zhuhai

The Hengqin Line, opened on 2 December 2024, ends at the light rail’s only station on Hengqin island. Its 2.2 km run under the Shizimen channel in a tunnel from Hengqin Port to Lotus in Cotai. The station is underground in front of the Macau zone of the port: you clear Chinese exit and Macau entry in the port building first, then take the train. Which station for what

Straight-line distances from the station to the place, rounded to 50 m; on foot it is further.

Anything over a kilometre is better by bus or taxi. The Macau peninsula beyond Barra — Senado Square, the Ruins of St. Paul’s, Hotel Lisboa, the Border Gate and the Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal — has no light rail yet. The operator is building an East Line of 6 stations and 7.7 km from the Border Gate area along the eastern waterfront to New Urban Zone A and across to the Taipa Ferry Terminal; it gives no opening date.

1. 10 December 2019

   Taipa Line

   Ocean to the Taipa Ferry Terminal, 11 stations on Taipa and Cotai.

2. 8 December 2023

   To Barra

   Across to the Macau peninsula on the lower deck of the Sai Van Bridge; the line is now 12.5 km.

3. 1 November 2024

   Seac Pai Van Line

   1.6 km from Union Hospital, the first interchange, to the Seac Pai Van housing estates.

4. 2 December 2024

   Hengqin Line

   Lotus to Hengqin Port, 2.2 km, about 900 m of it in a tunnel under the water.
